Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to test the effect of a scenario based hand hygiene education program on hand hygiene knowledge, hand hygiene perception, hand hygiene compliance and hand hygiene method in nursing
students.

Methods: A non-equivalent control group, non-synchronized quasi-experimental design was used. Forty five nursing students participated in the study with 22 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ¥ö©÷-test, t-test, and repeated measures of ANOVA.

Results: There were significant increases in hand hygiene knowledge (t=-4.28, p<.001) and accuracy of the hand hygiene method by week (F=7.33, p<.001). However, hand hygiene perception (t=-1.67, p=.102) and hand hygiene compliance rate
(F=7.33, p=.405) were not significantly changed.

Conclusion: The effects of the scenario based hand hygiene education program provided in this study were excellent, compared to the other hand hygiene education programs. Moreover, as a result of investigating the education effects through direct observation for 4 weeks, appropriate feedback was offered in the third week, and it was found that maintaining the effect was necessary. However, the current status of hand hygiene compliance and accuracy of methods for ensuring hand hygiene need to be studied further.
